AW16 Style Inspiration
Since some cooler days are creeping in amongst the swelteringly hot, we suspect autumn is slowly phasing in, so thankfully we can finally wear heather grey again and stop applying anti-perspirant thirty times a day. Since we’re pretty bored of the same ‘trends’ (dark colours and puffer jackets for winter? Who knew?!), we’re looking to our favourite films and series of the past year for our inspiration this season.
The Revenant //
[Dolce & Gabbana, Dries Van Noten]
Channel Leonardo in a big bear coat –not only will a longer length provide extra warmth but adds an air of gentlemanly elegance. And what’s more masculine than looking like you’re ready to brave the artic?
Suicide Squad //
[Astrid Andersen, Belstaff]
Despite the subpar reviews, the all-star cast, superhero narrative and gradual hype made this film one of the most talked-about of the year. Look for outerwear with utilitarian details – dual functionality with detachable linings or hoods, button or zip pockers and body warmers. You may not need to store any weapons in there but you’ll be thankful for the extra storage when you’re struck down with the flu and hauling around an arsenal of Day Nurse, Kleenex and Berroca.
Stranger Things //
[Gucci, Fendi]
Barb as menswear style inspiration? Yes. Don’t fight it. The waspy glasses, structural shoulders and garish colours – sounds wrong but carefully select the right pieces to stand out in a sea of boring black and navy tailoring. Alternatively, keep your fashion icons closer to home by taking a leaf out of the boys’ book, with kitsch jumpers, shackets and rucksacks. Dare to explore your local vintage shops for authentic eighties pieces.
