Making sense of the scents
The Brighton Beard company started up 5 years ago with only one scent to hand, the original Mandarin, Cedarwood and Juniper berry. To this day it remains the most popular of our scents.
The Old Joll beard Oils come in 3 different scents; The OG Mandarin and Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood and the Black Pepper and Grapefruit. The scents were carefully chosen not only for their scent profile but for their nourishing properties too. So not only will you smell great but they're so good for the skin too!
Mandarin and Cedarwood
Mandarin Essential oil
Mandarin essential oil is mild but has many wonderful properties; it has been known to reduce acne and oily skin, brighten the skin and it also has claim to reduce stress and help alleviate insomnia. Plus the obvious reasons for using it, that it smells great.
Cedarwood Essential oil
Cedar wood essential oil not only smells delightfully earthly and very manly but like the mandarin oil has various benefits such as being antifungal, antiseptic and antibacterial just to name a few.
Juniper berry is most well known and associated with Gin; a delightful accompaniment to as well as a key botanic in the distilling of Gin. However it's delights don't stop there it also works wonders for the skin, being know for it's calmative effects and helping to relieve mental and emotional issues, as well as being antiseptic, anti-rheumatic, astringent and vulnerary.
Black Pepper and Grapefruit
Black Pepper oil
Black pepper is rich in vitamins such as A sand C, flavonoids, carotenoids and other antioxidants. Black Pepper is known for being anti-inflammatory when ingested, conversley when used externally it has almost the opposite effect, it stimulates blood flow which is know to help promote hair growth. So for any of you wanting to add a bit of length or fill in those pesky patches in your beard, our Old Joll's Black pepper and grapefruit oil may be the one.
Grapefruit oil
Grapefruit essential oil has also been known to reduce stress, stimulate circulation, increase energy, enhance mood, and improve digestion. When put on the skin externally it can help to treat overly oils skin.
Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood
Ylang Ylang is a tree native to Indonesia, know for having beautifully scented flowers and the oil is considered an effective antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic and sedative. It has a positive effect on immune health, blood flow and emotions, making it a natural remedy for the endocrine, cardiovascular, reproductive and digestive systems.
Sandalwood essential oil is extracted from the sandalwood tree which has normally matured to an age between 40-80years. The older the tree the more potent the essential oil. There are many wonderful benefits to sandalwood oil such as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, carminative, diuretic, disinfectant, emollient and memory booster.
Creampot Tom Beard Balm scents
The only scent carried over to the balms is the mandarin and grapefruit, the other scents are Jasmin and Lemon, Lime and Basil, Bergamot and coriander and Neroli and Rose. All very different scents so there's definitely something for everyone, just depends on personal taste (well smell!).
Jasmine and Lemon
Jasmine
Jasmine tea has been drunk for years and is known for it's calmative effects, the oil has the same affect and more; the oil is derived from the Jasmine Flower and used by many as a natural remedy for relieving stress and improving mood by balancing hormones. It has also been known to treat depression, anxiety, emotional stress, low libido and insomnia.
Lemon
Lemon oil is just an all round good egg (not literally), Lemon is anti everything, but in a good way..... owning antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon is also well known for giving your immune system a boost which help relives coughing and helps you get on the mend if you have a cold. Lemon is a great for those who suffer with allergies too as it relieves congestion and clears your sinuses. Oh and the obvious it smells wonderful.
Lime and Basil
Lime
Lime oil aside from smelling so fresh, it promotes mental clarity and increase energy and focus. It works to reduce stress and anxiety too, I feel a theme coming on with essential oils.
Basil
Basil oil smells just like basil, so if you like the smell of it you'll love the scent of the beard balm. Like a lot of the other essential oils it helps to relive stress anxiety and depression and can also relive tension from migraines.
Bergamot and Coriander
Bergamot
Bergamot is probably best well know for being a key flavouring in Earl Grey tea, however despite brewing a delicious cuppa it has many health benefits too. The flavonoids present make it an excellent relaxant and and reduce nervous tension and related ailments such as high blood pressure, insomnia and depression.
Coriander oil
Coriander oil is a well known herb delicious on just about everything, except for those of you who think it tastes like soap, sorry about that. Luckily our products aren't for eating just making you look fab. Coriander has been shown to reduce digestive upset and can act to reduce pain, probably not a reason for using it as a beard product but good to know.
Neroli and Rose
Neroli
Neroli essential oil is known for its various health benefits, the oil is derived from the flowers of the orange tree. It is extremely good for treating depression and grief as it lifts up the spirits and is good at calming people down. It has strong sedative qualities due to which it can be used to treat anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
Rose
Research and personal experiences tell us that rose oil can improve acne, balance hormones, relieve anxiety and improve depression, and leaves you smelling like roses (obviously).
It's clear that essential oils are good for you, and depending on which scent you use (if you have a preference) you may be getting extra benefits apart from having your beard looking and smelling divine.
